New Flanders Branding and Logo Reflect Growth, Expanded Capabilities, Commitment to Core Values

December 14th, 2011

Evansville, Ind. – A new logo, look, and re-branding strategy forEvansville’s Flanders Electric serve as outward evidence of a renewed business plan the company is launching to further expand its reach in both well-established and emerging heavy industries.

Flanders repairs, services, designs, manufactures and sells electric motors, products and power and automation systems for heavy operations including surface mining, metals milling, utilities and – most recently – wind energy.

The third-generation, family-owned international company was founded inEvansvillein 1947 and its name – Flanders Electric – was recently shortened toFlanders.

Allen Patterson, Flanders COO, says the re-branding reflects the company’s growth and expanded capabilities in motor manufacturing, product development, drives, controls, and automation. For several decades Flanders – one ofEvansville’s “quiet giants” — has helped transform heavy industries by repairing, servicing and engineering custom power systems that serve un-met needs.

Realigning for New Opportunities

“Our core competency has always been repair and field services, and we’re as committed to that as ever,” Patterson notes. “Now we’re making moves to increase awareness ofFlanders’ abilities in engineering and manufacturing systems that solve application-specific problems and increase long-term equipment performance. For operators that translates to lower costs, improved safety and increased productivity. We work with customers to optimize their assets so they can achieve their business objectives.”

Flanders’ new branding also reflects an organizational realignment that will better position the company to take on new business and continue meeting customer needs in the field as well as the development and manufacturing sides, Patterson says. Already a number of trademarkedFlandersproducts and systems are used in domestic and international operations.

Recent re-organization of the company’s Power Systems division has resulted in three new production groups: Motors, Products, and Systems Integration. Leadership has set new goals for increasing business and creating jobs not only in its mainstay – the surface mining industry – but also in alternative energy, metals milling and other heavy industries.

About the Logo

The company says the new logo, a tilted F, depicts its characteristics: balanced, bold, strong and confident. ToFlandersthe openness of the tilted F also represents its commitment to listen and serve – a quality that is a part of the company’s fabric, Allen Patterson says.

“We’ve always lived by the motto, “Listen and serve customers until they are satisfied, if not ecstatic,” he states. “We remind ourselves every day of our mission and values, which have everything to do with the company’s standards for excellence and integrity.”

Putting it Out There

To build visibilityFlandersis introducing (and re-introducing) products and capabilities at heavy industry trade shows, in targeted print and Internet outlets, and through its website, sales, field services and support teams.

But much of their work springs from referrals, repeat business and solutions they design – like a recently-developed gear and motor drive that makes rope shovels more productive. Now Flanders is working on a series of upgrades for  rope shovels including the Freedom™ open architecture control and operating platform, North America’s first AC Dragline Upgrade, and the ARDVARC™ automated drilling system used in surface mining.

“So much of our growth comes down to the talent and commitment our employees bring to work every day,” remarks Dave Patterson,Flanderspresident and CEO. “Everyone atFlandersis asked to be a part of our mission to be a force for good in our work and our communities. The end result is strong partnerships with customers who come back for our help. We’re thankful for that.”

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  – The annual Don’s Claytons Coat-A-Kid Campaign will kick off at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Dexter Elementary School, where the Evansville IceMen will take part in the event.

Don’s Claytons Fine Drycleaning is accepting new and gently used coats for infants, children and teens now through December and the coats will be distributed through January.

Since the Coat-A-Kid program began in 1986, Don’s Claytons has cleaned more than 130,000 coats, all given by the community and distributed to children and teens in need by the Salvation Army and Evansville Christian Life Center.

“It’s always a great day when we kick off Coat-A-Kid with area students, and having the Evansville IceMen with us will add to the kids’ excitement,” Don’s Claytons owner Steve Schmitt says. “Unfortunately, we have really seen the need for coats grow over the past few years, so we hope coat donations increase this season. Last year we ran out of coats before we ran out of kids who needed one.”

Flanders’ SureTrip Technology Improves Shovel Productivity; Lowers Cost Per Ton

October 25th, 2011

Evansville, Ind. – A gear motor drive assembly and cable spool reel engineered for rope shovels has dramatically decreased the occurrence of unexpected dipper trip system failure, one of the biggest productivity thieves in surface mining operations.

Developed by Flanders Electric, The SureTrip dipper spool reel applies constant tension during the dig cycle to maintain full control over the tripping cable, and delivers optimum torque to ensure reliable, consistent gate activation.

Performance studies show the long-life SureTrip system delivers 99 percent activation reliability, and SureTrip is the only dipper trip system that can be custom-set based on digging situations to help maximize digging efficiency.

At shovel operations where SureTrip is installed, customers have reported the following benefits:
•    Easy integration of the digital drive into existing shovel control systems
•    Significant increases in productivity
•    Much lower levels of operator frustration
•    Extended rope and component life due to smooth torque regulation
•    Fewer maintenance requirements due to elimination of wound motor
•    Maximized component life due to extreme-duty cable reel assemblies and ring and pinion gear

In addition, operators where SureTrip is installed report SureTrip’s new Graphic User Interface (GUI) to be user friendly, with secure and modifiable settings and intuitive navigation that reduces training costs. Mining operations say SureTrip’s detailed diagnostics minimize maintenance downtime.
